Statement of Oak Brook Village President Gopal Lalmalani Red Light Cameras
As you are aware, the Village of Oak Brook has always been opposed to the Red Light Cameras that were installed on Route 83 and 22nd Street by Oakbrook Terrace in 2017. Through FOIA requests at the time, we were very much aware that there was political influence that went into the approval of those cameras. Recently, with the on-going Federal investigation and the indictments of Sen. Sandoval, Sen. Cullerton and the resignation of Mayor Ragucci of Oakbrook Terrace, we were proven correct.
With these new developments. the Village Board has once again taken up our fight to have those cameras removed. It is evident that they were installed so specific legislators could become rich through a kick-back scheme and not for safety purposes.
On behalf of the village Board, I have sent a letter to the Acting Secretary of Transportation, Omer Osman, demanding that those cameras be removed. Additionally, I have copied our State Legislators, Sen. Glowiak and Rep. Mazzochi asking for their assistance. My letter and the attachment can be found on the link below.
The Village Board will continue its efforts to get these cameras removed and will keep our residents advised of any new updates.
Gopal G. Lalmalani, MD, MBA
Village President
