[ARCHIVED] Village of Oak Brook Statement on Cybersecurity Attack

June 20, 2022

On Sunday June 19, the Village of Oak Brook determined that it was the target of an organized cybersecurity attack, impacting certain operational and information technology systems. Village staff took immediate action, suspending all affected systems to isolate the attack, notifying authorities and activating a network of IT, cyber defense, and legal professionals including a third-party forensic team to resolve the situation. The Village immediately commenced a thorough investigation in consultation with our cybersecurity and data privacy professionals. That investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.

System recovery efforts are in process and being implemented as quickly as possible.  The Village’s goal at this time is to remove any and all infections from our systems, ensure all of our devices are clean, and restore functionality while simultaneously working to maintain ongoing operations and to minimize impacts. The Village is not aware of any evidence at this time of any customer or employee data that has been compromised or misused as a result of the situation.

We appreciate your understanding as we work through this issue.  Additional information about the incident will become available as the investigation continues. While cybersecurity threats continue to impact all of us, the Village is taking all possible measures to protect the information entrusted to us.
