[ARCHIVED] Graue Mill & Museum Civil War Encampment

Graue_Mill

Visitors to Graue Mill and Museum Saturday, September 3rd and Sunday, September 4th will be able to get a look at what life was like in a Union military camp during the Civil War.

The encampment is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and includes authentic clothing, weapons and tools, along with black powder firing demonstrations and drills, cooking, toys and crafts.

For more than 35 years, the 10th Illinois Regiment and some its member's families have spent two days camped out at Graue Mill, 3800 York Road, for a Civil War encampment, and they are returning again.

"Our main purpose is to keep that period of history alive in front of the public, especially for young people," said longtime regiment member Gerry Bliss. "This was such a pivotal part of our history. What we do here is basically the story of the common soldier. There were a lot of hardships for the people back home, too."

We hope to see you there!
